Journey On Relaxation Exercise Reflection

Before I listened to "Journey On" I was feeling overly stressed. Prior to this exercise I was dong my work for my other class, HW410: Stress-Critical Issues in Management & Prevention. I don't know why, but every time I read and work on my assignments for this class, I feel my body become stressed.

Anyway, while listening to the soothing, calm voice and following the speaker's directions, I began to feel the stress leave my body. As I listened, my hands and fingers became warm in the process. Towards the end of the recording, my stress had completely left my body leaving me feeling relaxed and refreshed.

I have a subliminal recording packed in a box somewhere; while listening to this recording reminded me of that tape. I have had it since about 1985, and I remember that when I used it I would feel so relaxed that I would be just about asleep. I am going to find that tape and use that tape and this recording during my times of stress since I am currently under a lot of stress taking care of my husband as his full-time caregiver because of his health and going to school. I certainly can use some tools for alleviating my stress.

  1. I believe stress is something we tend to accumulate, almost becoming numbed by the load. Depending on the time of day, type of day, and my general attitude I have noted differences in my abilities to focus on schoolwork. I have started taking two-minute breaks before shifting to new tasks. I am utilizing music, breathing techniques, and physical movement to clear my mind before moving forward. For me the ability to go outside and breathe in the fragrances (rural area), or to quite my mind with a piece of relaxation music or deep breathing exercises shifts to a more positive stance. It is almost like “rinsing off” the intruding stress before moving on. Besides work, school, and home responsibilities (husband only, kids grown) I am caregiver to a father terminal with cancer and mother who is diabetic with a failing heart. If you cannot find your tape, there are several excellent short exercises on You Tube for washing away stresses interfering with moving forward.

  2. Debra,
I hope you find those tapes with the subliminal recordings, those sould cool! I hope your husband is ok, having a loved one, parent, or child is one of the worst things in life to go through. There's many things online now about meditation and relaxation, try www.youtube.com (as Diana mentioned earlier) there's tons of things on that site. Good luck!
